I’ve returned last week from a perfect holiday in Turkey and I want to share some traveling tips I find essential. I’ll be short.

But fiiirst…There are 2 kinds of vacations you can have in Turkey, be sure to decide what you want from the start:

typical traveling - that involves sightseeing, visiting, basically discovering a new country in as much detail as possible. In this case you need a proper home documentation. For such a trip in Turkey my recommendation is simple: do NOT go in the Antalya region or any region very near Antalya. There is really very little to see on that coast of Turkey. Instead go to Istambul, Ankara, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pamukkale"title="wiki for Pamukkale" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');">Pamukkale etc. Maybe <a href="http://euraluca.blogspot.com/"title="Raluca Munteanu's blog" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/euraluca.blogspot.com');">Raluca[RO] can give us more tips on this kind of trip when she returns from Turkey.

total relaxation - sitting back, reading by the pool, sleeping in, eating well ,with not a single care in the world. That is surely something Turkey can offer you. All inclusive, of course. This is what me and my friends wanted and we got it in full. Therefore my advice are related to this kind of vacation.

My total-relaxation-in-Turkey tips:

1. Documentation

Go to a 4 start hotel, minimum 4 star, they are affordable in Turkey. (<a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g950910-d599104-Reviews-Riva_Club_N_Hotel-Okurcalar.html"title="riva club n Turkey" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.tripadvisor.com');">Ours was 5*) Do not even think of booking a room or leaving your country without checking out the hotel on <a href="http://www.tripadvisor.com"title="home page tripadvisor.com" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.tripadvisor.com');">tripadvisor or <a href="http://www.holidaycheck.com/"title="home page holidayckeck.com" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.holidaycheck.com');">holidaycheck. It’s a must. Look at the ratings, look at the reviews, look at the pictures taken by other tourists. Priceless. In Turkey there can be HUGE differences between two 5* hotels and you don’t wanna be taken by surprise.

2. Tip tip tip!

The staff is generally very hospitable to tourists but keep in mind that the guys cleaning up your table are working 10-14 hours a day. They are not in swimming suits and can’t lay back by the pool if they feel like it. Moreover they surely have small salaries. Would you smile around the clock in those conditions? ALL the time? Tip them, when you can, how you can but tip them. It will surely improve your stay significantly.

3. No hablo englesh

Not everyone speaks in English. I know.. it’s amazing! In Turkey you don’t do much with English. Instead German or Russian will help you in any situation. If those aren’t your strengths be sure you know the universal language of POINTING … I did manage to learn one phrase in Turkish - Sarhos oldum - i.e. I’m drunk maybe it’ll help you

That’s it. For now. I wasn’t short. Damn. More pics <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/deedeecus/"title="flickr page" target="_self" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.flickr.com');">here.

And another thing: thank you <a href="http://travela.ro/blog/157/concurs-travela-sfaturi-turistice/"title="travela contest" target="_self" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/travela.ro');">Travela for giving me a push to write this post. I’m not really generous to future tourists Can I still win if I write in English? hmmmm…

That’s because, like every blogger at least once in their life , I’ve seriously considered shutting this place down. For many reasons. But I can’t. I relax with deedeecus.com and I want to believe that somehow in the future I will be able to create the valuable blog I dream of.

Meanwhile, I’ve been enjoying the summer here (Cluj), back home and in Turkey.

Note to self: Dee, stop trying, you will never ever be able to learn Turkish, nor need to. The only words you have to know in this language you already know them - Sarhos oldum!

This morning I had a very short chat on Twitter with @miradulescu. What do you know…

It was a very bold move on her part to enter this little world and a clear-cut differentiation from the rest of the local stars who started personal blogs (Andreea Raicu, Tudor Chirila, Andreea Marin etc.) Probably most of the public opinion expected her to start a blog since she’s already writing a popular column in Romanian ELLE Magazine. She didn’t.

For now I like her twitts, she writes with passion (if you can imagine that in 140 characters) and a clear mark of a strong personality. She twitts about her work, her likes and dislikes… like the rest of us

I’m curious to see how she’ll handle “the noise”.

Who is Mihaela Radulescu? Official website. English short bio. A relevent article title about her from AdPlayers: M. Radulescu earns about $1 million a year from advertising. I think a more appropriate term would be brand endorsement.

And my favourite twitt of hers for the day here (RO)

Wonder why Zoso didn’t write about this…

From sources <a href="http://www.hitzonly.com/"title="EN - SOURCE of pics" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.hitzonly.com');">1, <a href="http://www.starpulse.com/"title="source of pic" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.starpulse.com');">2, <a href="http://betweenscenes.blogspot.com/"title="en" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/betweenscenes.blogspot.com');">3.

LATER EDIT: For all the Tokio Hotel fans, some of which like the band enough to leave a comment here, I have to get the facts right. So, I go to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokio_Hotel"title="wiki tokio hotel" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');">Wikipedia - Tokio Hotel music genre: emo, glam rock. Maybe only the lead singer is emo (Bill?) , maybe not even him but, I ask you, can you argue with Wikipedia?

The “hot” topic around here these days is the emo trend. The debate (tv, blogs etc.) started with an unfortunate news about a 12 year old little girl which I refuse to further detail here.

I discovered “emos” the beginning of last year. I saw a little 11 year old girl’s profile and then her friends’ profiles … I was amazed and instantly picked up the phone and called my little sister (she was 16 then):

“Hey you”

“Hey”

“Are you emo?”

“LOL. Emos are loosers. The kids around here are starting to be emo, but not us.”

“So you know what an emo is! Wait a minute! Kids?? You’re a kid!”

“Of course I know… Kids as in 10-14 yrs old. I don’t agree with the bisexual part. I do like Tokio Hotel though. I think the twins are cute”

Pfew!

That’s how I got to google Tokio Hotel and thought the twins were a girl and a boy. They were both boys…

Then I started talking to all my friends with little bros and sisters and they started calling all their siblings. It was good. No harm done upon our loved ones Now, everyone is wondering what is an emo and how one ends up an emo… it’s been going on for years!!! Only now you notice??

I’m not gonna start talking about how I was at 12-13 years old.

All I’m sayin is that if my future kid comes home with a lock of hair all over his face I’ll give him a good reason to cover his face! Want depression? I’ll show you depression! … before you go and do smth like this .

It was all over the news and internet these last few days: <a href="http://www.cna.ro/-English-.html"title="EN" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.cna.ro');">CNA, National Audiovisual Council of Romania, banned the airing of the below social TV spot on the grounds of it being “anti-social” and tied to the election campaign nowadays in Romania.

I chose to share it with you because I simply love it: the idea, the execution and most of all THE SOUNDTRACK!

<a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=vGQ1hjSCMNw"title="Youtube video" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/youtube.com');">The spot includes clear-cut references to communism through

the music chosen,

the image of Romania’s last communist leader, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolae_Ceau%C5%9Fescu"title="Wikipedia page in english" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');">Ceausescu and

the representation of the masses bowing in front of the leader.

The shocking part is when all Romanian presidents since Ceausescu are showed, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_Iliescu"title="wikipedia page in english" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');">Iliescu, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emil_Constantinescu"title="wikipedia page in english" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');">Constantinescu and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traian_B%C4%83sescu"title="wikipedia page in english" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/en.wikipedia.org');">Basescu, culminating with the end statement :

“Coose your masters carefully”

Remarkable is also the fact the the movie is made completely in-house by the TV station that aired the campaign, <a href="http://antena3.ro/"title="ro home page" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/antena3.ro');">Antena3.

I know that usually TV station internalise most or all marketing activities. This is just another example of good work from a good marketing team.

Simply stuff worth sharing.
And a few words which anyone can find the time to read and like.

Note: I am not abandoning the marketing side of deedeecus.com. It may just be a little outshined by remarkable encounterings.

In this note, I discovered the company Remarkable ! They are creating recycled products focusing on design and quality, since 1996. They create products with history, things with a previous life and maybe an after-life as well.

In the last few months there’s been an avalanche of websites in .ro dedicated to women, from <a href="http://www.hotcity.ro/"title="RO" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.hotcity.ro');">portals to online <a href="http://www.garderoba.ro/"title="RO" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.garderoba.ro');">shops and <a href="http://www.stylediary.ro/wordpress/"title="RO" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.stylediary.ro');">blogs. Too much information! all over the web.

Based on the principles “why the hell not?” and “if you want something done right do it yourself” I brainwashed a fashion victim girlfriend of mine and started our very own little GIRL PROJECT: <a href="http://www.thatshot.ro/"title="under construction" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.thatshot.ro');">thatsHOT.ro.

We’re hoping to launch in the next couple of months. It’s gonna be basically a wordpress based website aka blog which… you know what? I’ll tell you later all about it. All I hope is that a busy, cool , webloving girl will love to spend a few minutes a day on thatsHOT’s site or feed .

In the mean time, I would appreciate any comments on the logo draft below. The positive ones you can also address directly to the author (Thank you again <a href="http://www.raresnastai.com/"title="RO blog" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.raresnastai.com');">crime partner!) and the negative ones just hit me and I’ll filter them a little before forwarding them :P . <a href="http://www.pahomi.ro/"title="RO blog" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:urchinTracker ('/outbound/article/www.pahomi.ro');">Pahomi, any evil thoughts please ? :D
