“Anti-social” TV campaign censored

It was all over the news and internet these last few days: CNA, National Audiovisual Council of Romania, banned the airing of the below social TV spot on the grounds of it being “anti-social” and tied to the election campaign nowadays in Romania. 

I chose to share it with you because I simply love it: the idea, the execution and most of all THE SOUNDTRACK!

The spot includes clear-cut references to communism through

  • the music chosen,
  • the image of Romania’s last communist leader, Ceausescu and
  • the representation of the masses bowing in front of the leader.  

The shocking part is when all Romanian presidents since Ceausescu are showed, Iliescu, Constantinescu and Basescu, culminating with the end statement :

“Coose your masters carefully”

Remarkable is also the fact the the movie is made completely in-house by the TV station that aired the campaign, Antena3.

I know that usually TV station internalise most or all marketing activities. This is just another example of good work from a good marketing team.

    echipa de marketing? spot social? singura parte pozitiva e ca firma care face animatiile si-a facut publicitate gratuit. in rest.. nu cred ca a fost un “plan” anume

    da tare spotul, rezultatul ideei echipei nu stiu cat de planuit a fost, dar tot respectul pentru concept. cat despre target, cam restrans.. pt ca sunt cam toti under 20 care habar nu au de vremurile mai vechi de Iliescu. spor in continuare!

    In privinta target-ului nu sunt neaparat de acord ca este restrans doar pentru ca au trecut atatia ani de la comunismul in Romania.
    O persoana ce a trait acele vremuri va percepe spotul intr-un anumit fel prin prisma experientelor sale, iar cei sub 20 de ani daca au o minima cultura stiu ce inseamna comunismul (in toata lumea) si pot intelege mesajul spotului chiar daca nu le va trezi sentimente de identificare.

    In privinta “planului”, imi vine greu sa cred ca omul/echipa de marketing al Antenei3 nu au avut unul cand au facut acest clip. Fie si doar ceva de genul “hai sa le aratam astora ce televiziune smechera suntem si cum dam noi un alt twist campaniei electorale”
