This is the original happy face design , created by Harvey Ball, a freelance graphic designer in 1963! I told you I was happy.

In 1963 an assurance company director hired Harvey Ball to design a button that would boost morale in his company, which had recently undergone a merger.

The designer originally drew only a smile and later added the eyes because he feared the employees would wear the buttons upside down. And thus the happy face global phenomenon was born.

Imagine the “fame and fortune” the designer or the assurance company could have had if only they had registered the design. They haven’t. The designer got 45$ for his work, and the world got the happy face.

Here is a complete story of the happy face… I think it’s amazing.

I do believe I am finally on the right track … glorious days are coming

I have officially killed my life-long habit of chewing my nails! I haven’t chewed them for about 1 and a half months now. They look gorgeous! The difference between my hands now and my hands 2 months ago is sky high! (I’m desperately looking for “before” pictures to show you).
I have always known hands are important and say a lot about a person but , because of my filthy habit I have been in denial for 10 years. Just like smoking, I have consciously ignored the obvious benefits and focused on the illusion of “I can’t help it”, “It’s because of the stress” etc etc etc. With the risk of sounding like Cosmopolitan I must say I FEEL SO MUCH MORE CONFIDENT and simply good about myself… but this is NOT ALL…

The big tada is…

I have quit smoking exactly one week ago and haven’t had one smoke since. I can’t begin to tell you how incredibly great I feel about myself. It’s not easy(especially on my boyfriend), I have moments of minor depression and irritation but I know they are all because of the addiction to nicotine and that they will pass in a little while… I am  h a p p y.

I didn’t want to say anything about this until I was sure I have quit forever. Now I am sure :D  I haven’t done this by myself. I had a lot of help in quitting and I’m sure my method can work for others… so I’m going to share it later on.

From now, no matter how horrible my day is I will always have something to make me feel better and put a smile on my face: the fact that I am free! I quit.

:D… nerve comes along with money…

No! she is not ugly. She is beautiful and cute (maybe I’ll share a picture sometime…)

I ran across this makes-you-think-a-little post of Andressa and it reminded me of my little sister’s “drama”. She simply does not make a good first impression. No matter who or what the situation. She was reading and writing by the time she was 5 and her first grade teacher told our parents she couldn’t read… she just didn’t like my sister. She’s 16 now and has always had trouble with teachers. They simply didn’t like her. Her highschool english teacher told her she didn’t like her smile because it looked evil/mean. Huh?!?

Let’s make something clear : she is a very very good child. She was always top of her school, not only her class, she fluently speaks english (since she was 6) and french, she is very very smart and that’s the only reason she has friend’s because her face isn’t helping! She has been suffering because of this her entire life and has had to fight a lot more than the rest of us to get along with people. I think she would have understood all this better if she were ugly. But she is definitely not…

If I weren’t there to witness all this I wouldn’t have believed in a milion years that the first impression is so powerful… so… as Andressa says, are you hatable ?

I, on the other hand, think I do make a good first impression. I just have trouble living up to it …

If you’re a smoker this series of posts will not surprise you. If you’re not… what I’m talking about here are hard facts.

The first reason not to quit is S O C I A L I Z I N G ! That’s right, it’s much easier meeting new people and entering conversations if you’re a smoker simply because the more you non-smokers damn us and reduce the space we can use for our little pleasure, the more we feel like a community: we understand each other, we feel for one another and we can get together regularly to enjoy a few “quality” minutes and we’ll always have something to talk about

If this seems like high school talk to you, well.. it’s not! It’s not about being cool or interesting.

Think of all this as the kind of community with loyalty and communication that MAC / Apple users have. Makes you wonder…
